It was an enchantingly beautiful wedding. Gracie looked angelic in her Donna Salado over the shoulder strap white wedding dress.
What??? Her shoes were red!!! Has she gone mad?
I was shocked, quite honestly I had never seen a bride
wear anything but white shoes!!
Why didn’t I think of that?
In the past wearing coloured shoes was a fashion faux pas.
Today, it's a fashion trend.
Though initially it shocked me to see the red shoes,
I now fancy this new trend.
Or is it new to me? How long has this been going on????
Perhaps, my dear friend, Dustjacket Attic, the fashionista of Blogshire
can enlighten me!!

I love this trend too! wonderful examples! Have a sweet day! x
Oh what beautiful pictures!
I am not married, but I am not sure what colour shoes I would wear? I am not very good at walking in heels! So maybe a colourful pair would make up for the fact they will probably have to be flats!
Have a great day :-)

These are so beautiful! I'm not married yet but I will definitely put on coloured shoes for my wedding! Maybe red as well or pink:)
Love the idea of coloured shoes, a great fashion trend. My wedding shoes were white. What a scandal in those far off days if I had worn red shoes!!
How gorgeous!
I've never been married, but if ever I do, I will definitely be wearing coloured shoes!!
And will send you the pic to prove it x
Hi darling. I just adore the trend, I think it has been around a little while now. I got married when champagne and white were all the go .. would do it differently now! But that's the fun of fashion, always changing.
The wedding venue sounds divine, really something.
I loved your choice of pictures, so beautiful.
xoxo
Hello, great pics!! I had pearly white shoes .... yawn!!!
Next time will be barefoot on the beach - or purple (my favourite colour)!!!
Beautiful photos, Duchess. I am not married but if I were I would love a pair of vintage shoes. I did see a bride with a beautiful pale blue pair the other day. I do love the idea of red however and the wedding venue sounds idyllic! xx
Fabulous Darling! I have never seen a bride wear coloured shoes before but I love it.
I had a dress of palest pink - ashes of roses - and cream satin ballet pumps with matching pink rosettes! Which caused a bit of a stir 20 years ago, but I think that was half the fun. I started out wanting a scarlet frock, but just couldn't find one!

I have seen it before in fact a friend of mine got married with red patent stileto thigh boots!! can you imagine her husbands surprise when she hitched up her dress for a rather naghty shot!! he had no idea and neither did the guest's as her dress covered them.
oh an btw thank you, thank you a zillion for following me i'm buzzin!!
cheers darl xx
I love all of those pretty shoes, and to be married in a castle... a fairytale come true! Thanks again Duchess for your encouraging comments on my blog! Bisous... Julie Marie
Great pictures!...luckily I'm not married yet! xxxxx
The wedding sounds just so romantic and beautiful--and to get married at a castle! *sigh* Well, 20 years ago I wore satin slippers the same creamy color of my wedding gown. I would think people would want to see the bride, like from the head up, and not necessarily her feet...but anything goes these days. Why not? Have a great day! ; )

A beautiful bride. Wearing colorful shoes is new to me. Great pictures. The one with the man wearing the stripped socks was hilarious. Have a great day.
Mine were a light, matte silver with a brooch on each one that had a vintage look to them. The tiny buckles on the straps were encrusted with rhinestones. During the reception, I slipped them off and donned hot pink leather flip flops!
Always a lady :)
Love,
LuLu~*xoxo

Castle Wedding is really an admiration of among girls, isnt it?
Your cousin looks so beautiful and charming!! New trend wedding shoes are colourful. idont know about that.
Hi Duthess! Oh, I love the idea of wearing colored shoes. I've not seen that before. Well, I guess I don't go to many weddings anymore! :) I'd pick red, too! I love red!
Don't you just love artichokes? Well, maybe not so much to eat - they're so much trouble - but faux ones! I'd love to see your pink ones.
Thanks for the visit and ta ta!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hello Duchess,
I think this has to be the cutest post I've seen in, well, forever!!! Oh, my shoes? They were butter cream brocade and matched my Jessica McKlintock mermaid gown.
One day while blog hopping I came across the most BEAUTIFUL wedding pictures and the bride had on striped stockings with bright green shoes...so darling!!!!
I hope you have a lovely day!!!
xoxo Cori
Hello Dear Duchess, I have been so behind in catching up. Will life ever be the same again? How beautiful your cousins wedding must of been? Made of dreams we all share. My shoes to the Scottish husband were tartan. Royal Stewart to match his kilt. I wanted to be a bit crazy too! Such a lovely post. You never disappoint my dear.
xx all the best, Deb
What a lovely idea. The colour of the shoes could come back in the bouquet of flowers. Nice. Have a nice day
Beautiful photos! I wore cream shoes(sigh..) If I were to renew my vows I would wear PINK!
Donna
Duchess, my she is simply elegant. So graceful in her gown, that is truly a gown for a princes to marry her prince in. Its beautiful, I am gasping for air on her graceful posture, and elegant shoes, the shoes :0) So wonderful. Ya know I should've thought of that too, what an elegant touch. Its darling simply darling. Great pictures today.
Blessings,
Heidi
Darling Duchess, that picture fair took my breath away ! Goodness that dress is perfection and of course - is shown off beautifully by it's wearer.
Sounds as though the whole thing was heaven.
I love the idea of red shoes - why not !
This trend is great- although I admit I wore white shoes on my wedding day... Pink would have been nice!
Dear Duchess,
Hope all is going well with you as well as the Rose Tea Cottage.
I am so delighted to know you and enjoy your beautiful Blog. I look forward to what you're going to post. Enjoy the lovely pictures as well.
Thank you for visiting me and having tea. I enjoy our visits and the fellowship.
I really like the colored wedding shoes...this takes me by surprise because as I get older I find myself such a traditionalist.
Perhaps I will enter into another phase that is neither here nor there.
I was married back in 1974 and wore ecru colored dress with same colored shoes. I hope to post about this next week. The trend was solid white and I went ecru.
Just a tad bit rebellious...but I felt like a Princess on my Wedding Day.
Autumn Blessings to you,
d
I think its a lovely idea. Different, but in a good way. Unexpected and fun. In cultures like china and india red is the traditional wedding colour.
HI!!!!
I got married 33 years ago when the only color you would wear was white!!!!My darling daughter married 5 years ago wore white dress shoes then for the reception changed into comfy white blinged out flip flops!!!! Can you imagine that!!!! I love the idea of color on shoes!!!!!
lovely!!!
Guess what is happening in Orlando while we will be there next week??? A traveling Princess Diana exhibit!!!! Oh I almost cannot sleep at night for the excitement over that one!!!!! You know where I will be one day, sorry Disney world I will have to be excused one day!!!
hugs,
jamie
Love it! Mine were gold to match the gold scalloped hem of my gown. They had a one inch, rhine stone strap across the toe, a three inch, gold heel, and gold satin ribbon that laced up the leg. Gorgeous but God they were painful. It's funny, they didn't hurt until I took them off. That was when the sense of a nail jamming into the ball of my foot kicked in. Ouch!
Sweet modern nostalgic shoes in a collage of colors. What fun to see them!
Dear Duchess,
Your cousin looks gorgeous!!! In our tradition, on wedding we dress up in saree and we won't wear shoes,we will be on the barefoot,so i dont know about that... but i love to wear white wedding wouns and red shoes.
Once again thank u for your encourgement....
Have a great day...
sangeetha
Wow! That's cool. Those photos make it look beautiful! I'm not married yet. Not sure how I feel about it for myself. It would look beautiful matching the bouqet and for photos. :)
Good evening Your Grace (I believe that's the correct form of address, please correct me if I'm wrong!) What a delicious blog you have here. Thanks very much for popping over to mine. I have two things I need to tell you:
1) My wedding shoes started the day as white silk, but became a little green with yellowing patches during the photos. Shame, but that's English summers for you!
2) Having read your profile, I know you will be shocked to learn that we lived in Harrogate for five years and never once took tea at Betty's! Our excuses are to do with having two small boys and no money, but we still feel rather bad about it...
That looks amazing I love the scene in the SATC film when Carrie is wearing the blue Manolos with her vintage wedding outfit! It looks so striking!
Lots of Love
Kelly xxxxx
Wonderful piccies, I love the red shoes but I think I love the green even more.
I was going to buy a mustard pair of Mary Janes a while ago and my lovely other looked at me like i'd gone mad lol. I think bright coloured shoes make a real statement!
((hugs))
Beki xxx
p.s they didn't have my size boo hoo!
Beautiful pictures!
When my hubby and I got married 37 years ago, my dress was white and my shoes were purple!
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
I love this new trend! It's fabulous! When I got married 19 years ago it was all white . . . my shoes were white satin with lace appliques and white sequins . . . they were very pretty and I adored them!
Thanks for sharing!
Blessings,
Teresa
Wow.. nice pictures..!
Im suprised that your cousin wore red shoes too Duchess. Although im not married (one day) I think its a great idea to match the shoes to the flowers.
Rose
Mine were a pair of silver sparkly mules. I still have them 37 years later!
This is a lovely post. I'm not married but these gorgeous pictures make me want to get out there and find a man now and drag him down the isle just so that I can wear a beautiful dress and coloured shoes!

What a cute post. I to had no idea that this little secret trend was going on under ladies wedding dresses. Hmm.
Oh I love the idea of the Bride's fav color shoes, peeking out from under her long, white gown! ,-)
And mine were white of course. 'Twas way back in 1958! So nothing but white would even have been considered! Eeeek no. :-))))
ohh my i loove this post!!! all those colorful shoes..divine!!
Hope you have a beautiful weekend!!!
DEVON! I have family in Devon! A beautiful town called Torquay on the South West coast. I know Tiverton well. Very pretty!
The red shoes look wonderful! I love it!
Just discovered your wonderful site and I am absolutely smitten--I am a tea lover through and through, enjoying all the props, flavors, rituals and the tea, of course. As for colorful wedding shoes, I see it as an opportunity for creativity and I love the trend. My wedding shoes were a metallic bronze and complemented the metallic thread in some of the embroidery on my dress.
Beautiful site ~ I'll be back!
Wonderful Post! I was boring I wore "White".
If only I was the tread setter I would have wore "RED".
Enjoy your weekend,
Elizabeth
Mine where off white peep toe d'orsay pumps. BUT, I really wanted aqua ones. I love the look of colored bridal shoes!
Everybody thinks that a bride should wear a white pair of shoes, instead, I like colored shoes for a wedding dress... Very eccentric and unusual!
I just adore the red shoes, they are truly spectacular. I hope it catches on......
I love those red shoes. Bless her for being true to herself.
These are the best wedding shoes I've ever seen! Love love love it! I think this would be a nice reason to get married! ;)
Wow!! Great pictures! I love colored shoes, gorgeous!!!!...
In my marriage, I used beige shoes...so boring! Today I would used green shoes with a large beige satin loop!
Wow Duchess - is that your cousin in the top photograph? She looks like a film star!!!
A castle wedding how lovely. My niece married at a castle last year too - we had a fantastic day even though the weather was the worst ever - so bad that there were floods in a lot of areas of England on 6 September 2008. Even though she only married last year she stuck to tradition and had white shoes.
I married 21 years ago, on the same weekend as my niece did last year, but it was 3 September (carnival day in our town) - unlike my niece's day mine was beautiful sunshine. I wore white shoes too, they had bows on the front, my gown and the bridesmaids' dresses had bows on too. I never even thought of wearing coloured shoes, although my favourite colour is red. Back then I think it would have been a bit out of place to wear coloured shoes, and I think my dear departed mother would have been a little horrified!!!!
Some friends of ours married on 31 October - Halloween - last year and they had a Halloween theme - sadly we couldn't make the event and I still haven't seen any photos - must ask to take a look at them.
I must do a post with photos from my wedding day very soon.
As usual your post is absolutely divine.
Love the green shoes!
You have a beautiful blog! Congrats!
I wore black boots! Nobody could see them under my dress but I got a secret thrill by being a little rebellious :)
your blog is absolutely fabulous! i, myself, wore pink shoes at my wedding! found you on haute whimsey and i think i'll have to come back for a visit now and then...pink is the best color...EVER! i even have pink in my hair ;)
~r
I love this trend too but had no idea about it either. My wedding shoes were white of course, but that was almost 30 years ago :)
I love the idea of red shoes!! My husband and I were married in a garden and comfort was a huge consideration for me. I had a favorite pair of black suede Puma flats that were the most comfortable shoes I owned. I ordered another pair for the wedding that were the palest lavender color with small details in magenta (our wedding colors were shades of white with shades of purple). Everyone who saw them thought they were ballet slippers and loved them! And they were so comfortable! But at the end of the night, I saw my husband's niece walking barefoot in the grass and I followed suit!!
